What changed

Florida opens 2026-27 at 0-0 after a 27-8 SEC title season. National and local reporting has since confirmed the preseason No. 1 ranking and All-American honors for Haugh, while the Baylor exhibition added a practice-only warning about shooting and depth. No regular-season game or rotation move followed, so confidence holds.

Why it matters

Florida went 27-8 and won the SEC. Now the Gators are 0-0, ranked No. 1 in the preseason AP poll and carrying one obvious repair job: head coach Todd Golden returns five proven scorers, but that ice-cold shooting chart needs fixing.

What to watch

Track the assist-to-turnover balance and three-point shot quality against Miami, Florida State and Duke in November. Cleaner creation points toward a deeper March run.

What would change our mind

Home losses to Miami or Duke, paired with three-point shooting near 30.8 percent and loose ball security, would knock Florida from title chase to seed fight.

The counterevidence

Florida shot 30.8 percent from three and 71.0 percent at the line in 2025-26. Packed paints will dare the Gators to prove they can shoot.
Florida is 0-0, one of its top six scorers is gone and no proven replacement has been named. Polls project. They do not prove.
Hail Florida Hail flagged cold shooting and thin bench scoring after the Baylor exhibition in a single report focused on rotation detail. Exhibitions are practice, and Florida is still 0-0.
